Biography
Urs Stauffer is a Somatic Movement Educator certified by the School for Body-Mind Centering® and has been given the permission to use the term Contact Improvisation by Steve Paxton.
He has been active in the field of both these techniques for over 30 years. He moved to Berlin in the late eighties to study improvisational dance and somatic approaches intensively. In the early nineties he had his own dance company and was co-fonder of the dance festival Potsdamer Tanztage.
His work is greatly influenced by Steve Paxton whom he saw dancing the Goldberg Variations in 1989 and who has been his teacher several times. In 2015 he was invited to Madbrook Farm, the home of Steve and Lisa Nelson.
He has also been working many times with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen since 1990 and was lucky to be one of her assistants, in 2017 and 19, in two of her major workshops combining BMC® and dance.
